We have four pediatricians who are board certified and proud Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our Nurse Practitioner is also board certified and a member of The American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
With extensive training and years of experience, our providers strive to provide quality care in a patient centered model of care.
We are affiliated with Lifespan/Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital and Brown University School of Medicine. We provide care from birth to 21 years of age.
E. James Monti, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Monti founded this practice over 40 years ago. He has been a fixture in medicine in Rhode Island for several decades and has taken care of generations of families in Cumberland. He is a graduate of Georgetown Medical School and Providence College.

Dr E. James Monti, Jr., M.D. will be retiring after 64 years of practicing medicine. He would like to thank all parents and grandparents for entrusting him to care for your most prized possession-YOUR CHILDREN.
Dr. Monti’s official last day is on 12/31/2025, last day seeing patients will be on 12/29/2025. We welcome all patients to continue their care here at P.R.I.M.A., Inc. with one of the remaining providers. Alternatively, to transfer your care outside P.R.I.M.A., Inc., please complete a Medical Release Form. It’s available at www.primapediatrics.com under Patient Forms or by calling 401-333-5201, option 3. Your records will remain accessible for seven years.
For those continuing care at P.R.I.M.A., if Dr. Monti is currently listed as your primary care physician with your insurance, please contact your insurance carrier to update your primary care provider to one of our P.R.I.M.A. providers.

Carol A. O'Shea, M.D.
Dr O'Shea has been with P.R.I.M.A. Pediatrics for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Brown University, RI

Dr. Starakiewicz has been with P.R.I.M.A. Pediatrics for over 15 years. She is a graduate of Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

She speaks both English and Polish.
Pranati Jha, M.D.
Dr. Jha completed her Pediatrics Residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She joined P.R.I.M.A. Pediatrics in January 2015 and is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology.

Carrie Roy, FNP-BC
Carrie earned a masters of science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University, (Chicago, IL) and is a Board Certified family Nurse Practitioner. Carrie has over 25 years hospital RN experience in womans health, labor & delivery, and pediatrics. Carrie believes the patient family-provider relationship is a partnership on trust and teamwork.
